OCTOBER 2, 2018

VANCOUVER, BC (PGA of British Columbia) – It’s a tight race atop the leaderboard in the PGA of BC Women’s Championship presented by Dexim Golfwear following Tuesday’s first round at Point Grey Golf & Country Club, with two players tied for the lead and a handful more close behind with one round remaining.

Leila Harman (Morgan Creek Golf Course) and Christine Wong (Pacific Golf Academy) both registered 37 stableford points over the opening 18 holes to share the first-round lead.

Harman, who has held the title of PGA of BC Women’s Champion four times in the past, made four birdies during her round, three of which came during her bogey-free back nine. Wong also recorded four birdies, making two on either side to reach her total.

Under the stableford format, players receive points for their score relative to par on each hole. One point is awarded for a bogey, two for a par, three for a birdie, and so on.

Meanwhile, Point Grey’s own Kattereya Kennedy sits just two behind, having collected 35 points in her first-ever tournament round as a Professional. She will join Harman and Wong in Wednesday’s final group.

Tuesday’s first round, which was held in conjunction with the annual Point Grey Ladies’ Pro-Am, featured gusting winds and cool temperatures, but the conditions couldn’t keep the field from posting some impressive scores. All three players in the penultimate group for Wednesday’s final round sit within five points of the lead – Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club’s Ashley Zibrik (34 points) and the Predator Ridge Golf Resort duo of Kyla Inaba and A.J. Eathorne (32 points each).

The first group of competitors will tee off at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, while the final threesome will be on course at 9:40 a.m.
