PGA of BC Professional Spotlight -- Nov. 3, 2021

Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
For the love of the game and a means of providing a life for my family.

What is the most rewarding part about being a member of the PGA of BC?
Advancing through the programs to get to the level I have achieved to date. Being part of the PGA for 32 years. Being the HP at the Royal Colwood Golf Club has been the pinnacle of this adventure.

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
Kelowna Golf & Country Club, Irvin Taylor

Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Irvin Taylor, Sandy Kurceba, Wayne Vollmer, Dick Munn, John Jacoby, Ian Robertson (Jim Robertson) and the Board at Royal Colwood: for giving me the opportunity to join each team and grow within the industry.

What career path led you to where you are today?
Degrees in Economics from the University of Saskatchewan and graduating from the San Diego Golf Academy with the prime interest of working within the golf industry.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Being part of the team at all facilities I have been part of. Aiding in the development and administration of the Play Golf Kelowna Program. Leading the team at the Royal Colwood GC, adding to the 108 years of history this club has. Being Invited to be the HP at this beautiful club.

If you had to share one piece of advice with a new member of our Association, what would it be?
Never stop learning. Always be on your toes. Golf is a customer service-based industry and listening to the voices of your customers will always guide you in the direction you need to go. You are never in it alone. It takes a team to operate any customer service-based facility. Share your successes with everyone you work with.

What is your most cherished golf memory?
So many tournament memories. Getting a hole-in-one at the Gallagher's Canyon Men's Pro-Am. Competing at a high level with many great golfers.

What is your favourite golf course in British Columbia, and why?
Royal Colwood: Because I am the HP here. It is a great course that deserves all of its accolades. You can play it everyday and never get tired of it.

What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
That you play golf all of the time.
