Summerland Golf & Country Club assistant professional Greg Machtaler was the runaway winner for the 2013 PGA of BC Player of the Year title. Machtaler won three PGA of BC tournaments in 2013, including the PGA of BC Championship at Salmon Arm in a playoff over Seymour Creek's Bryn Parry. Machtaler started his year off with a win at the Assistants' Championship in Chilliwack, narrowly beating Olympic View's Gordy Scutt. Machtaler dedicated that victory toa friend of his who had recently passed away.
Olympic View Golf Club Apprentice Gordy Scutt beat a star-studded group of regional recipients to become the 2013 PGA of BC Apprentice of the Year. Scutt balances a successful playing career with his work with the Olympic View team. Scutt believes in a philosophy that great leaders inspire others to become leaders, not followers.
Christina Lake Golf Club head professional Kevin Maffioli was named on Oct. 16 as the PGA of BC Golf Professional of the Year. Maffioli, who oversees all operations at the club, helps organize the largest Men's Open Tournament in the province, with 240 players, and during the peak season, gives excellent directive to his staff of 45. Maffioli also takes pride in mentoriing top quality junior golfers, including three juniors who are now playing college golf.
It was a huge success at the Richmond Oval on Oct. 16 and 17 as more than 600 people attended during 20 hours of the PGA of BC 2013 Trade Show. PGA of BC members had the opportunity to win more than $15,000 worth of door prizes just by attending and filling out their blue member ballots and some of the big prizes and winners included:

Cory Betz of Eaglecrest Golf Course in Qualicum Beach shot a two-under 71 to take a one-stroke lead into the final 18 holes of the 2013 Cleveland/Srixon Canada PGA of BC Club Pro Championship Presented by DSG TAG Systems at the Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club. "I made three birdies and only one bogey and I drove the ball well," Betz said of his Monday round. "I'm happy with what I shot."
The sun is starting to come out and the showers are starting to lighten up as the 2013 Cleveland/Srixon Canada PGA of BC Club Pro Championship Presented by DSG Tag Systems kicked off just before 11 a.m. at the Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club on Monday. The 36-hole stroke play tourney features 48 of the top club professionals in the province and when Riverway's Hal Eremko hit the first tee shot just before 11 a.m. on Monday, the competition was on.
