RICHMOND, BC (PGA of BC) - The PGA of BC and Kal Tire are proud to announce Seymour Creek Golf Centre’s Steven Lecuyer as the 2023 Kal Tire Order of Merit champion. Lecuyer earned this honour through his incredible play this season in PGA of BC tournaments and on the G&G Tour, an affiliated regional tour for Lower Mainland PGA professionals. Lecuyer overcame impressive challenges from other top competitors, including runner-up and 2021 Order of Merit champion Kevin Stinson (Cheam Mountain Golf Course) and 2022 champion Zach Olson (Chilliwack Golf Club) who rounded out the top three.
Lecuyer was the 2023 PGA of BC Assistants’ champion after besting the field at Chilliwack Golf Club in June. Through 22 holes of the 36-hole event, he sat four shots back of the lead. He then unleashed a barrage of pinpoint putts with scorching accuracy, including a clutch two on the par-3 17th.
Lecuyer also put forth several phenomenal performances on the G&G Tour. He earned a victory in May, and his unflappable consistency was on display throughout the duration of the season, adding top-five finishes at three other events and tying for third in the G&G Tour Championship.
“It means a lot. I really appreciate everyone involved with the tournaments this year, the host courses for allowing us to play in the community tour and the PGA of BC tournaments,” said Lecuyer. “I know how much work you guys put in, how much work the host clubs put in to get all the players to meet up and have these great events. It means a lot to be able to finish the season with my name at the top.”
Lecuyer said he was able to rely on his short game this year, which came through several times in the clutch to earn him a top finish.
“My short game was phenomenal this year. I didn’t hit the ball too well, I was really struggling with my swing. My short game saved me time after time this entire year. It was my first full season with the PGA of BC. It was nice having a full season and knowing that I could play well and get my way to the top by the end of the year. I showed up and got the job done as far as I could.”
His victory at the Assistants’ Championship was the highlight of his season, said Lecuyer.
“I didn’t have my A-game, but I stayed in it. My putting and chipping definitely helped me finish that tournament on top, which is a really big accomplishment for me. I’m glad I got that one and I’ll always remember that.”
Ryan Paulson, Kal Tire’s Director of Retail Marketing, offered his congratulations on behalf of the company to those who competed throughout the year and earned a place on the leaderboard.
“It was a long race that required a lot of hard work and perseverance. We would like to congratulate all participants who played hard through the course of the season, with special acknowledgement to the Top Five finishers who demonstrated exceptional commitment and consistency all season long. Well done!” said Paulson.
With Lecuyer’s win, he takes home $1,000 and a $500 Kal Tire gift card. The top ten competitors will be awarded from a purse of $5,000, while the 2nd- to 5th place finishers also won $200 Kal Tire gift cards. The Association extends our gratitude and appreciation to Kal Tire for their generous support of the Order of Merit program and its competitors.
