Three of the top four spots were claimed by BC players, with Shaughnessy's Lindsay Bernakevitch coming closest to winning after he lost on the first playoff hole to Ontario's Billy Walsh. Bernakevitch shot 67 on Thursday to finish at -12. Just behind, in a tie for third were Seymour Creek's Bryn Parry and Summerland's Greg Machtaler, who both finished at -11.

Seymour Creek's Bryn Parry blistered the Willows Golf & Country Club during the opening round of the PGA of Canada Assistant's Championship, carding a course record 10-under 62, which included an opening 30 for his first nine holes. Despite swirling Saskatoon winds that were more than 30 km/h at times, Parry rained birdies on the course and was the early first-round leader in the 54-hole tournament that runs until Thursday.
