For Immediate Release:
20th Annual PGA of British Columbia Award Winners
Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club team nabs majority of awards after hosting tremendously successful RBC Canadian Open Championship
RICHMOND, B.C. - (March 19, 2012) – Although the winners were announced late last year to meet the deadline set forth by the National PGA of Canada Office, there was still no lack of emotion at the official presenation of the 20th Annual PGA of British Columbia Awards ceremony held recently at the River Rock Show Theatre in conjunction with their Spring Education Seminar.
Keri Moffat with the Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club took home the PGA of BC Teacher of the Year Award. Moffat emotionally thanked all of her family and supporters in the crowd, and also one specific family member who could only be there in spirit, her late father. Keri’s dad introduced her to the game of golf, and although she wished nothing more than him to be there to celebrate together, she did take comfort in knowing she was able to share the news of her award when it was announced before his passing.
Hosting arguably one of the most successful RBC Canadian Open’s in the long history of the event, it was not a huge surprise that the prestigious Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club faired extremely well in the Awards Department. This Vancouver private Golf Club took home top marks for Golf Facility, Golf Shop, and two top Professional awards with Lindsay Bernakevitch (Apprentice of the Year) and Scott Dickson (Golf Professional of the Year).
Bernakevitch, who recently passed his Class “A” Examination with the Association, had a banner year of his own accord winning the 2011 PGA of BC Championship held at Rivershore Golf Links in August.
Dickson was in attendance to accept his awards even though he recently assumed a new role back East in Ontario as the new Head Professional at the Mississaugua Golf & Country Club. Dickson had this date circled for a while as an opportunity to re-unite with his former team and also pay tribute to the many professionals who helped shape his golfing career (some of those were in attendance).
Although not in attendance, Bryn Parry earned Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive year (seventh time in eleven years) for another terrific golfing season. Parry’s highlights with the PGA of BC include a runner-up finish at the PGA of BC Championship and winning the PGA of BC Assistants’ Championship title.
On behalf of the PGA of BC Awards Selection Committee and the Board of Directors, the PGA of BC would like to thank all sponsors for their contribution to the awards.
