Courtenay, B.C. - (July 23, 2012) - Newly Crowned PGA of BC Assistants' Champion of Chilliwack Golf & Country Club continued his impressive play at Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community by setting competitive course record in opening round.
Freshly off his record setting 17-under par performance at Vernon Golf & Country Club only six weeks ago (63-64=127), Brad Clapp, the talented twenty-five year old from Chilliwack fired an opening round of 65, setting another competitive course record and takes a one shot lead after the first round of the Titleist / FootJoy PGA of BC Championship in Courtenay, BC.
Clapp's round featured nine birdied and just two bogeys, completing an impressive run of 24-under-par in only his last three PGA of BC competitive rounds. "I drove the ball really well today, which kept me out of trouble" said Clapp. "I hit the ball great, which allowed me to have a lot of looks at birdie. Whenever when I got in trouble, my short game was there to save me".
Sitting only one shot back of Clapp in second place is Steven MacPherson of Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club, who fired an impressive six under par 66. The former Assistants' Champion's round closed out with four consecutive three's, including an Eagle on the Par 5 15th and birdies on the 17th& 18th holes.
Wrapping up the top four in a two-way tie for third place is Matt Palsenbarg of Northview Golf & Country Club, alongside Kevin Black of Seven Hills Golf & Country Club, both firing rounds of four-under par 68.
Defending Champion Lindsay Bernakevitch of Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club sits five shots back, after opening his title defense with a respectable two under par 70.
Second round tee times begin at 7:30am on Tuesday at Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community. Leaders are scheduled to tee off at 10:30am.
