Cory Betz of Eaglecrest Golf Course in Qualicum Beach shot a two-under 71 to take a one-stroke lead into the final 18 holes of the 2013 Cleveland/Srixon Canada PGA of BC Club Pro Championship Presented by DSG TAG Systems at the Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club.
"I made three birdies and only one bogey and I drove the ball well," Betz said of his Monday round. "I'm happy with what I shot."
Betz leads Mountain View Golf Club's Jeff Wiggins and The Golf Institute at Fraserview's Derek Thornley by a stroke, as each shot a one-under 72.
Two strokes back is a group which includes defending champion Dean Claggett of Two Eagles, Adam Blair of Talking Rock, Kevin Maxwell of Olympic View, Jeff Buder of Point Grey and Scott Rodgers of Meadow Gardens.
The 36-hole CPC at Shaughnessy has gone on remarkably well despite the rainy weather system which has pelted the Lower Mainland since Friday. But Shaughnessy head superintendent Robb Barr and his staff have done an excellent job keeping the course in immaculate condition.
The first tee times on Tuesday go at 9:20 a.m., with the final group of Betz, Wiggins and Thornley teeing off at 11:44 a.m.
