SURREY BC - JULY 31 2014
Warm weather and pristine course conditions greeted applicants at the PGA of BC Summer Playing Ability Test, hosted July 30th and 31st at Hazelmere Golf & Country Club in South Surrey. Sixteen aspiring PGA of BC professionals were gunning for their cards - the target score 156 over two rounds.
Representing Seymour Creek Golf Centre, Derek Britton struggled with a 79 on Day One but recovered on Day Two - carding the event's low round with a one-under 71. His two-day total of 150 earned him low qualifier honours.
Darrin Dielemans of Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club was stressfully close to the number, carding rounds of 77-78 for a total of 155, earning his PGA of Canada card by one shot.
"It wasn't pretty out there," Dielemans noted, "but it was all I needed."
Congratulations to both players, who will become PGA of Canada Candidates for Membership and will begin completing the requirements of the PACE program on their route to Class A professional status.
