RICHMOND, BC (PGA of British Columbia) – The PGA of BC is thrilled to partner with Discover Golf Canada and introduce their creative and unique junior programs across the country. Discover Golf Canada joins the Association as a Silver-level partner and will be the presenting sponsor of the Alvie Thompson Teacher of the Year Award at our awards show this fall. The company was just launched this spring by Tyler Roope and Matt Palsenbarg with the first three facilities receiving product in June. Discover Golf, created by Richard Franklin, is a junior coaching program that emphasizes the importance of fun and a games-based approach. Discover Golf is a pioneer in the way junior golfers interact with the sport. Discover Golf Canada programs include a starter pack of six games designed to help juniors improve while maintaining the joy of play.
The collection of games was introduced in Canada through PGA of BC professional Roope and the LABsters program. Roope is the Director of Instruction at the Langley Golf Academy, home to the LABsters junior golf program. Through Discover Golf, he experienced immediate success with the help of PGA of BC professionals Max Cohen and Cole Briggs, with Franklin saying they encapsulated the games-based approach. The LABsters junior program is heading into its 13th season and sees upwards of 140 junior golfers a month, with over 250 kids registered for their summer camps. In 2022, LABsters partnered with Clayton Hills Golf Course 9 hole to host summer camps. The open 9 hole space is fully taken over from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. to immerse athletes in the Discover Golf universe. New this year, they have added an artificial putting green with partner precision greens.
The launch of Discover Golf Canada for distribution across Canada is a team approach of Roope, along with PGA of BC professional Palsenbarg and Jennifer Forbes. The purpose of launching Discover Golf Canada is to help develop junior golfers and grow the sport throughout the entire nation. Now, you can harness the power of fun and introduce your club’s juniors to the world of Discover Golf Canada!
