VICTORIA, BC (PGA of British Columbia) – More than 30 PGA of British Columbia members and guests from around the province gathered at Victoria Golf Club Tuesday for the second leg of the 2020 PGA of BC Education Series presented by Foresight Sports Canada.
The event featured a great mix of the PGA of BC's diverse membership, from newly joined Apprentice Professionals, established Teaching Professionals and General Managers of highly regarded facilities, all of whom shared the appetite to learn on an array of topics to further their professional development.
The event kicked off with five-time PGA of BC Jack Westover Coach of the Year recipient Robert Ratcliffe. The director of instruction at Bear Mountain Resort Community and head coach of Golf Canada's Junior Men's National Team engaged the audience with his presentation titled "Pathways to Long-Term Progress in Competitive Golfers". Throughout his presentation, Ratcliffe shared his philosophies on tailoring an athlete's development plan, discussing main contributing factors towards program development and how PGA Professionals can apply these tactics to better their own programs.
Following Ratcliffe was Lindsay Benard, Senior Corporate Trainer at Dale Carnegie Training of British Columbia. Benard’s energetic workshop on increasing customer service through a presentation titled “Today's Competitive Advantage: Attitudes That Drive the Customer Experience” engaged attendees in thinking different in the delivery of elevated and memorable service standards.
Closing out the day's talks was 2018 PGA of Canada Stan Leonard Class “A” Professional of the Year Award recipient, Greg Pool. Having recently gone through a rigorous recruitment process which ultimately saw him attain the position of Head Professional at Surrey’s Northview Golf & Country Club, Pool shared his notion surrounding key characteristic traits commonly found in successful PGA Professionals. His presentation titled “The Top 10 Skills & Traits Every PGA Professional Should Have” was derived from interviews and concepts gathered through his attendance at various seminars put on by PGA Professionals around the world.
The PGA of BC would like to thank today's volunteer speakers for sharing their knowledge with their peers, as well as Executive Professional Scott Kolb, Head Professional Lindsay Bernakevitch and the rest of the Victoria Golf Club team for their hospitality in hosting the event.
The next event on the PGA of British Columbia education calendar takes place March 10 at Kelowna’s Gallagher’s Canyon Golf & Country Club for the third leg of the 2020 PGA of BC Education Series presented by Foresight Sports Canada.
