British Columbia golfers did the PGA of BC proud at the 2013 PGA Assistants' Championship of Canada presented by Titleist & FootJoy. Three of the top four spots were claimed by BC players, with Shaughnessy's Lindsay Bernakevitch coming closest to winning after he lost on the first playoff hole to Ontario's Billy Walsh. Bernakevitch shot 67 on Thursday to finish at -12. Just behind, in a tie for third were Seymour Creek's Bryn Parry and Summerland's Greg Machtaler, who both finished at -11.
Bryn Parry of Seymour Creek in North Vancouver finished where he started and Todd Halpen of Calgary, AB caught him as they head into the final round tied for the lead of the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada presented by Titleist & FootJoy at The Willows Golf & Country Club in Saskatoon.
Seymour Creek's Bryn Parry blistered the Willows Golf & Country Club during the opening round of the PGA of Canada Assistant's Championship, carding a course record 10-under 62, which included an opening 30 for his first nine holes. Despite swirling Saskatoon winds that were more than 30 km/h at times, Parry rained birdies on the course and was the early first-round leader in the 54-hole tournament that runs until Thursday.
Northview Golf & Country Club’s Matt Palsenbarg is the new leader in the 2013 PGA of BC Professional Development Program Order of Merit. The standings, which are updated as of Sept. 1, see Palsenbarg pull ahead of July leader Dave Zibrik of Seymour Creek, on the strength of educational credits gained. Palsenbarg also earned points for nominating people for the PGA of BC Awards and for playing in the PGA of BC Championship.

The Summer of Greg continued on Tuesday at the Salmon Arm Golf Club as Summerland Golf & Country Club assistant pro Greg Machtaler chipped in for birdie on the second playoff hole to beat Seymour Creek’s Bryn Parry for the Titleist/FootJoy 2013 PGA of BC Championship Presented By Axis Insurance, a $6,000 winner’s cheque and the William Thompson Trophy. “I can’t explain it,” said an elated Machtaler afterwards. “It’s been a dream summer.”
The pre-tournament favourites at the Titleist/FootJoy PGA of BC Championship Presented by AXIS Insurance hit the links at the Salmon Arm Golf Club on Monday and showed why they’re the best in the province. Seymour Creek’s Bryn Parry shot a 4-under 68 and is a just a shot ahead of three players also having great summer campaigns.
It was B.C. players taking home the hardware again at the 2013 Mr. Lube PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada presented by Adams Golf. B.C. tournament professional Jim Rutledge won his second straight championship, beating Alberta’s Rod Spittle on the fourth playoff hole after the two tied at -7 for the tournament held at Lookout Point Country Club in Fonthill, Ont.
