With the first round in the books at the 2013 Titleist FootJoy PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada beinig played at the PGA Golf Club - Ryder in Port St. Lucie, Florida, the B.C. contingent is holding its own behind first round leaders Vincent Cacchione of the Whitlock Golf & Country Club in Quebec and Marc Hurtubise of the Chambly Golf Club.
Cacchione and Hurtubise each shot an opening round five-under 67 to lead by two strokes over Keith Whitecotton of the Edmonton Petroleum Golf & Country Club, Adam Chamberlain of the Gowan Brae Golf Club and Roger Beale of Royal Westmoreland.
The B.C. contingent is led by Kelowna Golf & Country Club's Rob Anderson (pictured playing earlier this summer) and Mountain View Golf Club's Jeff Wiggins, who each shot two-under rounds of 70 to be only three strokes behind Cacchione.
One stroke further back is Olympic View Golf Club's Kevin Maxwell, who finished at -1 71, only four strokes off the lead in the 54-hole stroke play tournament.
Also posting respectable scores were Kevin Black of Seven Hills Golf & Country Club and Ross Mantell of Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club each shooting even par 72; Sergej Dronov of Dongguan Hillview Golf Club at +1 73; Mark Strong of Richmond Country Club and Cory Betz of Eaglecrest Golf Course at +2 74; James Legault of Seymour Creek Golf Centre and Russ Latimer of Black Mountain Golf Club at +3 75; and Jeff Buder of Point Grey Golf & Country Club at +5 77.
The B.C. InterZone team consists of Buder, Maxwell, Latimer and Mantell. They currently sit third, at +2, 218, six strokes behind Team Ontario, who are at -4 212, two strokes ahead of Team Alberta, who are -2 214.
The second round of the 2013 Titleist FootJoy PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada will be played Tuesday in Florida.
