Seymour Golf & Country Club Win Pro-Junior Championship

Pro-Junior Champs
Callaway Golf Jack McLaughlin Memorial PGA of BC Pro-Junior Champions: Seymour Golf & Country Club
(L-R) Finn Lawlor, Liam Ripper, Thomas Huckell, Colin Lavers, and Barry Wallis (Callaway Golf Canada)

A complete team effort from the squad from Seymour Golf & Country Club was needed to capture this year's Callaway Golf Jack McLaughlin Memorial PGA of BC Pro-Junior Championship held on Monday at Meadow Gardens Golf Club at Pitt Meadows.

Colin Lavers, Class A Professional with Seymour G&CC guided his team of Juniors to a 16-under par result to edge out the runner up team headed by Professional Dean Kuntz from Vancouver Golf Club by two strokes. Lavers was extremely pleased with how the team helped each other, including candid discussions on club selection, reading the greens, and staying positive.

"Whether it was our youngest member, ten-year old Finn (Lawlor), giving us a great start with two natural pars, a huge chip-in for par on six from 20 yards from Thomas (Huckell), or Liam (Ripper) shooting a career round that included five birdies, we all had a lot of fun and we are obviously ecstatic to capture the title".

"Finn was so pumped about winning," Lavers added laughing, "the new Callaway driver he won didn't leave his hands the entire drive home...he probably took it to bed."

The format of the Championship has the Junior amateur's play off of 80% of their handicap and the two best net scores are taken per hole (the Professional's gross score can also count as one of the two scores).

The PGA of BC Professionals also were playing for their share of a $3000 purse, winning a share for every birdie or eagle they made throughout the day. Three professionals shared top earnings, with host professional Scott Rodgers (Meadow Gardens Golf Club) and Patrick Martin (Fairview Mountain Golf Club) making five birdies, and Redwoods Golf Course Doug Morgan making three birdies and an eagle on the par-4 tenth.
