CLAPP WOWS, POJE DEFENDS, ZIBRIK WINS HER FIRST
PGA of British Columbia crowns three victors at Vernon Golf & Country Club for their Assistants’, Seniors, and Women’s Championships
Vernon, B.C. – (June 5, 2012) – The weather cooperated for the last two days at Vernon Golf & Country Club, three Champions were victorious in winning their respective Championships. Brad Clapp from Chilliwack Golf & Country Club played an astonishing two rounds of golf at 17 under par (63-64 = 127). Setting the competitive course record (63) on day 1, Clapp followed up his brilliant performance with a great round of 64 on day two taking the FlightScope/Cobra PUMA Golf PGA of BC Assistants’ Championship by nine strokes over last year’s champion Bryn Parry of Seymour Creek Golf Centre (68-68 = 136 8-under par). Clapp went bogey free over the 36 hole competition to secure his first Assistants’ title and took home $3,000 of the $16,500 Championship Purse.
Murray Poje (69-70 = 139) of Tssawwasen Springs Golf Resort successfully defended his Seniors’ Championship Title Presented by Kwikfit4u. Poje trailed local Professional Keith Vandenbrink from Hillview Golf Course (66-74 = 140) by three strokes heading into the final round. With steady play over the two days, Poje edged out Vandenbrink by one shot to defend his title and take home $1,750 for the Championship title. Alan Kristmanson of Whistler Golf Club recorded a hole in one on the fifth hole on day two of the tournament, his second of his career. Norm Jarvis of Eaglequest Coyote Creek (72-73 = 145) won the Super Seniors’ title for players over the age of 60, and also tied for third in the overall Seniors’ Championship netting him a total of $1,125.
Two consistent rounds gave Ashley Zibrik (neé Hogg) from Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club (74-78 = 152) the PGA of BC Women’s Championship title. Zibrik’s two round score bested Tara Roden (Gallagher’s Canyon Golf & CC) and Sheilla Cowan (Eaglequest Coquitlam) by eleven strokes. Zibrik earned $500 for her first Championship title.
The three Championships’ were held with threatening weather looming both days, but overall the condition of Vernon Golf & Country Club was pristine. With the support of General Manager Cec Ferguson, Head Professional Shannon Glenesk, and the staff, members, and volunteers of the host club, the overall event was an overwhelming success.
