The 2013 PGA of BC Sponsor-Media Golf Invitational held at the magnificent Mayfair Lakes Golf Course in Richmond on July 4 was a smashing success.
With more than 80 golfers hitting the links in a non-competitive and fun round, the emphasis was on the PGA of BC thanking its sponsors and media friends for the great support all year long.
And for participants, the fun started from the moment they checked in for their round of golf.
Everybody got beautiful blue golf shirts courtesy of TriMark and then it was the Spirit Bear coffee station where everything from Americanos to espressos to premium drip coffee was on offer (add in the ice coffee once players got warmed up and Spirit Bear was a popular place at 8 a.m.)
Most players ventured to the driving range to work out their snap hooks and Darth Faders and then it was off to the golf course, where the highlights included:
· Hillibilly Dawgz on the 1st hole with their specialty sausages and hot dogs that had at least one group doubling back for the delicious dogs.
· SportsTown was serving pulled pork sliders on the 8th hole and they also had many happy diners who then had to try and hit the green on their next shot
· Richport Ford had several of their beautiful vehicles on the 8th and 15th holes and that would be the prize if anybody was lucky or skillful enough to make a hole in one. (That didn’t happen, but the consolation prize of Delf Wine for KP was given out for the 4 par-3s at Mayfair Lakes)
· FanZoo had their tent on the 16th tee box and they were selling $20 hockey pucks for a draw for an Alex Burrows signed Canucks jersey. Proceeds of the draw are going towards junior golf programs in the province.
· Beerthirst was sampling its wares on the back patio and the Hops and Robbers and Prison Break brews were a huge hit with everybody.
· As players sat down for lunch in Mayfair’s banquet room, every seat had a gorgeous leather portfolio, courtesy of Original Six Marketing.
Mayfair Lakes head professional Brian Coe and his staff did a superb job catering a first-class meal, but many golfers were in awe of the prize table at the front of the room, where more than $35,000 of prizes was given out to everybody who played.
Prizes ran the gamut from golf clubs, golf bags and golf shoes to free rounds of golf all throughout the province to art pieces from Revival Art. One of the winners of a Revival Art piece was the lovely Yvonne Schalle of Global Television, who was a last-minute replacement for Keith Baldrey. Schalle, along with Global's Leigh Kjekstad were happy to show off Schalle's winning art.
There was also a silent auction, where Fanzoo had hockey memorabilia available, and there was also a draw for several big ticket items, including a Titleist driver, which was won by Randy Kika of Richport Ford, and a TaylorMade driver, which was won by Al North of Vancouver Car Wraps.
The PGA of BC is thankful for all the support its sponsors and media friends give during the course of the year and the Sponsor-Media Golf Invitational is our way of saying thank you and having everybody enjoy a beautiful day on the links.
The planning has already begun for the 2014 event and judging by the number of people who have already said they are planning to come back, the future is very bright indeed.
