Kelowna Golf & Country Club’s Rob Anderson is leading the West Coast charge after a second round 71 has him at -3, 141 after two rounds of the 2013 Titleist FootJoy PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada being played at the PGA Golf Club - Ryder in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
The leader of the 54-hole stroke play tournament is Marc Hurtubise of the Chambly Golf Club, who followed up an opening round 67 with another 67 to sit at -10. In second place following a strong 68 to go with his opening round 67 is Adam Chamberlain of the Gowan Brae Golf Club in the Maritimes. Chamberlain has some B.C. roots, having played some of his college golf at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby.
Another B.C. product within striking distance of Hurtubise is Olympic View Golf Club’s Kevin Maxwell, who has shot two rounds of 71 to sit at -2, 142, only eight strokes behind Hurtubise.
Sergej Dronov of Dongguan Hilliview Golf Club played in the final group of the day and sits tied with Maxwell at 142 after shooting rounds of 73 and 69.
The British Columbia contingent at Port St. Lucie also included 8 players who survived the cut and will play the final round on Wednesday in sunny Florida.
Jeff Wiggins of the Mountain View Golf Club shot a second-round 75 to go with his opening round 70 to sit at +1, 145. Kevin Black of Seven Hills Golf & Country Club is at 146 after a second-round 74, while Point Grey Golf & Country Club’s Jeff Buder is another stroke back at 147 after shooting a two-under 70 on Tuesday.
Another stroke back is Seymour Creek Golf Centre’s James Legault, who shot a second-round 73, and Richmond Country Club’s Mark Strong, who shot his second straight round of 74. Another two strokes in arrears, at 150, is Ross Mantell of the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club and Cory Betz of the Eaglecrest Golf Course. Rounding out the contingent of B.C. players who made the cut was Russ Latimer of the Black Mountain Golf Club, who shot 154.
Team Ontario won the Inter-Zone competition.
