RICHMOND, BC (PGA of British Columbia) -- Now entering its fourth year, Canucks Junior Golf Week presented by Odlum Brown Limited is set to kick off Sunday with hundreds of British Columbia youth learning the game’s fundamentals from PGA of BC Golf Professionals.
With more than 800 young golfers registered at nearly 30 facilities across the province and a number of camps reaching capacity, this year’s program is poised to achieve record participation totals while introducing the sport to hundreds of children for the first time. Almost half of all registered participants will arrive at their Canucks Junior Golf Week camp with no previous golf experience.
The initiative was developed in partnership with the Vancouver Canucks and first launched in 2014 as a way of encouraging British Columbia youth to stay active during hockey's offseason and to realize the athletic benefits of participating in multiple sports. Once this year's program concludes, total participation since its inception will have surpassed 2,500.
Canucks Junior Golf Week will run until July 9, with camps taking place in every region of the province. That includes a return to the PGA of BC’s Northern region for the first time since 2015. In the Lower Mainland, Canucks Junior Golf Week continues to be hugely popular in the Surrey area in particular, with four facilities preparing to welcome more than 250 kids in that community alone.
During the week, keep an eye on the PGA of BC’s accounts on Facebook, Twitter (@PGAofBC) and Instagram (@pgaofbc), where we will be sharing highlights from the various camps taking place.
In addition to the Vancouver Canucks, BC Hockey and presenting sponsor Odlum Brown Limited, the PGA of BC would like to thank contributing partners Cleveland Golf-Srixon Canada and the BC Society of Orthodontists for their support of this grow-the-game initiative.
