RICHMOND, BC (PGA of British Columbia) – The PGA of BC is saddened to learn of the passing of Life Professional Leonard (Len) Harvey.
A PGA of Canada member for more than 60 years, Harvey spent the past 17-plus years as part of the Academy at Predator Ridge’s instructional staff. He passed away on Oct. 8 in Vernon at the age of 89.
A native of Stonewall, Man., Harvey won back-to-back Manitoba Open titles in 1953 and 1954, the first as an amateur and the second as a professional. He began working as a club professional soon after, including stints as Head Professional at Winnipeg’s Assiniboine and St. Boniface golf clubs, and at Regina’s Wascana Golf Club before moving to British Columbia in 1980. Harvey also won the 1967 Saskatchewan Open and twice represented Canada in the Carling World Open in the mid-1960s.
Following his arrival in BC, Harvey spent time as Head Professional at Kelowna’s Central Park Golf Club and at Kelowna Springs Golf Club. He was inducted into the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame and Museum as an athlete in 2015.
Harvey is survived by wife Joanne, stepchildren Janet and Mike, four step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and further extended family.
