DELTA, BC (PGA of British Columbia) – Five participants in the PGA of BC’s Spring Playing Ability Test met their respective target scores over play Wednesday and Thursday at Kings Links by the Sea, taking a major step in their career aspirations as PGA of Canada Professionals.
Applicants participating in the 36-hole event needed to record a two-round total of 158 or better for their Exit Score (Class “A” standard), or 163 for their Entry Score (Candidate for Membership standard), calculated based upon the course rating multiplied by two, plus 15 and 20 strokes, respectively.
The following applicants achieved their Class “A” Standard on Thursday:
- Pei-En Hsu (GolfTown Richmond) – 76-73 – 149
- Michael Dyck (Cordova Bay Golf Course) – 76-81 – 157
- Jackson Redmond (Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club) – 77-80 – 157
- David Woytowich (Long Beach Golf Course) – 85-72 – 157
- Alexander Harvalias (Westwood Plateau Golf Academy) – 83-75 – 158
All five have now completed the PGA of Canada’s playing ability requirements and have cleared a major hurdle in obtaining Candidate for Membership status within the Association.

The qualifying scores were particularly impressive given the difficult conditions over the two days, with significant rainfall during Round 1 and a sunny but windy Round 2.
“The first day, first hole, my heart was just pumping. I was very nervous,” said Hsu, the lone player to shoot scores in the 70s both days. “It feels great … I feel pretty accomplished, especially after these two days where the weather was a bit extreme.”
For Dyck, it was a “different animal” trying to achieve a target score rather than playing against an opponent or tournament field where the goal is to score as low as possible.
“Down the stretch, I knew exactly what I needed and that’s definitely daunting,” said Dyck. “I think the best thing to do was just focus on playing well, hit good shots, hit the green, two-putt and get out of there with pars.”
Applicants who did not meet target scores this week will have further opportunities throughout the year to achieve their playing ability requirements, including the Summer PAT administered by the PGA of BC, scheduled for Aug. 8-9 at Hazelmere Golf & Tennis Club.
