JANUARY 6, 2020
RICHMOND, BC (PGA of British Columbia) – The PGA of BC is proud to acknowledge its Top 100 Golf Professionals of 2019, as determined by the Association’s Professional Development Program presented by Sunice and Bobby Jones.
The Professional Development Program (PDP) is an annual Order of Merit designed to recognize PGA of BC members who make outstanding contributions to the Association, their communities, the province’s golf industry and, most importantly, themselves. Through participation in continuing education, competitions, the PGA of BC Awards Program, annual Buying Show and various forms of volunteerism, the PDP provides an equal avenue to showcase strengths of the diverse membership.
“Sunice and Bobby Jones are proud to supported the Professional Development Program, which serves to acknowledge individuals working to elevate the overall profile of PGA of BC Professionals, and reward those who strive to serve the Association and golf community across the province,” said Stephen Graham, British Columbia sales representative for Sunice and Bobby Jones.
“The Top 100 Golf Professionals of 2019 are a tremendous group of individuals who share the common qualities of leadership, professionalism and dedication to their craft.”
Additionally, the PGA of BC is pleased to name Gordon Mink (Hi-Knoll Golf Centre) as the winner of the 2019 PDP Order of Merit.
Mink collected a total of 121 PDP points throughout the past year, which were seven more than the second-place finisher on the Order of Merit. Given Mink’s annual performance in the PDP, it should be no surprise to see the 65-year-old atop the standings. Mink placed third on the Order of Merit in 2018 to follow a fourth-place finish in 2017.
As in past years, Mink kept a busy and balanced schedule throughout 2019 that allowed him to accumulate a significant number of PDP points for educational pursuits, volunteerism, championship play and recognition through the PGA of BC Awards Program.
Mink’s 24 points earned through PGA of BC-administered education were the most collected by any member, while he also achieved the maximum number of points available in extracurricular education. He also padded his total by competing in three PGA of BC championship tournaments and by volunteering many hours of his time at the PGA of BC Buying Show and Awards Celebration, as well as the Vancouver GolfExpo.
Additionally, Mink was the 2019 recipient of the PGA of BC’s Dunc Sutherland Distinguished Service Award, and was also the Lower Mainland regional recipient of the Davie Black Professional Development Award.
“It is an honour to lead the Professional Development Program Order of Merit for 2019,” said Mink. “I feel privileged to be a member of this Association and believe it is important to continue learning and improving in order to promote our Association and grow the game of golf.
“The Professional Development Program is a great avenue for all members within the PGA of BC to remain committed to career growth, regardless of whether they are new to the Association or veterans within our industry.”
Cailean Hourigan (Bear Mountain Resort Community) was the only other member to eclipse the 100-point mark in 2019, collecting 114 during the season to secure a second-place finish in the Order of Merit and improve upon his 10th-place result one year ago. Jeff Wiggins (Mountain View Golf Club) earned 98 points on the year to place third, marking his first finish inside the top 10. Colin Lavers (Seymour Golf & Country Club, 94 points) and Graham Ogden (Richmond Country Club, 93 points) rounded out the top five.

Thanks in large part to the support of Sunice and Bobby Jones, a total bursary purse of nearly $5,000 will be divided among those finishing among the top 10, providing financial opportunity to pursue further professional development and education. The PGA of BC is pleased to announce that Sunice and Bobby Jones have committed to continuing as presenting sponsor of the Professional Development Program in 2020. We thank them for their generous ongoing support of the program.
