VANCOUVER, BC (PGA of BC) - There’s no place like home! Dave Zibrik, who serves as Director of Golf at tournament host facility Point Grey Golf & Country Club, leads the Srixon/Cleveland Golf Club Professional Championship presented by Nike Golf after round one. He shot a 2-under 70 in blustery winds, overcoming the strong, never-ending gusts to head into tomorrow’s final round with a one-shot advantage over his closest competition.
Zibrik began his round with consistency and poise. A long run of pars, with a birdie on the third, made up his front-nine. He faced some adversity with three bogeys on holes 11, 14, and 16. However, he was never down and out as he battled back with four more birdies.
“Knowing the conditions and how tough it was today, you just have to preach patience and get around the golf course without making mistakes. It’s so easy to beat yourself out there. I made one mistake I’d like back, but otherwise I felt like I hit the ball well and waited for the golf course to come to me,” said Zibrik.
“I play the golf course relatively conservatively out here, try to make a lot of pars. If I can score on the par fives and manage the rest of the golf course, I’ll be in pretty good shape tomorrow.”
If he wins, Zibrik would snap a five-year streak that has seen him finish runner-up in the event every year. The 2023 Tournament of Champions winner also emerged victorious at the 2016 Club Professional Championship.
Jamie Moran (Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community) was Zibrik’s fiercest challenger today, shooting a one-under 71. Axle Riley (Ardmore Golf Course) and Brian McDonald (Fairview Mountain Golf Club) are tied in third place, three shots back of the lead. Competitors will tee off starting at 8:00 a.m. in pursuit of the Dick Munn Memorial Trophy and the title of 2023 PGA of BC Club Professional Champion.
