Following the success of the first-ever virtual Spring Education Seminar in 2021, the PGA of BC is pleased to be conducting the 2022 event online once again. This format will ensure no disruptions resulting from public-health circumstances, allow member Professionals of the PGA of BC to participate from all corners of the province, and has provided the Association's Education Committee and administration team the opportunity to engage world-class speakers from around North America to join us for two great days of learning and professional development.

DAY 1 SPEAKERS:
JIMMY DUNNE
PRESENTATION DETAILS: As a titan in the financial world, golf has always been an important part of Jimmy Dunne's personal journey. Drawing on his experiences as President at Seminole Golf Club, rubbing elbows with the sport's elite power brokers and his story of how golf quite literally saved his life, Dunne will share lessons in leadership in conversation with PGA of BC Professional Padraic O'Rourke.
ABOUT JIMMY DUNNE:
Jimmy Dunne is vice chairman and senior managing principal of Piper Sandler. He was one of the founders of Sandler O’Neill + Partners, L.P., which was acquired by Piper Jaffray in January 2020. Under his leadership, Sandler O’Neill grew to become the largest independent full-service investment banking firm focused on the financial services sector.
Dunne, based in the firm’s Palm Beach location, plays a very active role in many of Piper Sandler’s key client relationships and advises on a wide variety of the firm’s mergers and acquisitions. He has advised on some of the financial industry’s largest M&A transactions over the past three decades. Recent transactions he advised on include Cadence Bancorporation’s announced merger with BancorpSouth Bank, Century Bancorp’s announced merger with Eastern Bankshares, TD Ameritrade in its merger with Charles Schwab, Blackhawk Network Holdings in its acquisition by Silver Lake and P2 Capital Partners, Financial Engines in its acquisition by Hellman & Friedman, Virtu Financial in its acquisition of ITG, and FCB Financial Holdings in its merger with Synovus Financial Corp.
Dunne is a frequent financial industry commentator on CNBC and Bloomberg TV and is often invited to speak on leadership and management issues to business, academic and civic organizations.
He began his career on Wall Street after graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in economics. In May of 2021, Dunne served as the commencement speaker for Notre Dame and received an honorary doctor of laws degree. He is also a member of Notre Dame’s Board of Trustees. Dunne is an avid golfer and active with numerous charitable organizations.
GARETH RAFLEWSKI, PGA
PRESENTATION DETAILS: Having established himself as a short-game expert trusted by top players on the LPGA and PGA Tours, Raflewski will share in conversation how he's built such an impressive client base and detail some of his short-game and putting philosophies.
ABOUT GARETH RAFLEWSKI:
Gareth Raflewski is a two-time recipient of the PGA of Canada's George Knudson Teacher of the Year Award and works with elite-level players such as Canadian PGA Tour competitors Michael Gligic and many LPGA players, including three LPGA World No. 1 champions. His teaching schools are located at Riverbend GC in Ontario and at PGA National Ireland. “He really approached my game in a holistic way, looking at all the elements that will help me become a better player,” says Ariya Jutanugarn, 2018 Rolex World Rankings No. 1. He has been recognized three times as the PGA of Ontario's Teacher of the Year and twice as the zone's Coach of the Year. “Raflewski is the pre-eminent short-game guru on the LPGA Tour and has a stable of high-flying players,” wrote the Globe and Mail. Gareth has teamed up with golf-industry experts Catalyst Golf to bring golfers of all skill levels his tour-proven practice products, videos and lessons.

PANEL DISCUSSION: JAROME IGINLA, BOB NICHOLSON & JIM HUGHSON
PRESENTATION DETAILS: "Career-building through the Pursuit of your True Passion"
This panel discussion will bring together three of the most recognizable and successful figures in the Canadian hockey landscape. Sharing in conversation their experiences and accomplishments at the top level of the sport in their respective areas, attendees will be able to glean insights from our panelists' esteemed careers in this wide-ranging, 90-minute session.
ABOUT JAROME IGINLA: Jarome Iginla is a retired professional hockey player who played more than 1,500 NHL games and was recently inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a first-ballot entry. An elite leader, Iginla led the Kamloops Blazers to two Memorial Cup Championships and was a three-time Canadian Olympian, famously assisting on the “golden goal” by Sidney Crosby during the Vancouver 2010 Games. Iginla is highly respected not only for his play on the ice but also for his humanitarian efforts and his commitment to community. He has many charitable causes with his main one being KidSport. This very worthy cause promotes sport opportunities for all. Iginla recently relocated to British Columbia with his wife Kara and their three children, where he is paying it forward and sharing his knowledge of hockey as a coach at Rink Hockey Academy.
ABOUT BOB NICHOLSON: Bob Nicholson has enjoyed a long career in the business of hockey. Currently serving as the Chairman of the Edmonton Oilers, as well sitting on the International Ice Hockey Federation Board of Directors as Vice President of North America, Bob has come a long way from his humble beginnings in the sport. Nicholson's career started in the role of operations manager at Oak Bay Recreation Centre while also serving as technical director of BC Hockey. Bob graduated to the position of President and CEO of Hockey Canada, where he managed a staff of 95 and built the programs that resulted in numerous Olympic and world-championship medals for the national junior, women's and men's programs. A key to his success has been to surround himself with many talented people such as Wayne Gretzky, Steve Yzerman and Ken Holland just to name a few. After an amazing career as a leader at Hockey Canada, Bob moved on to a new challenge with the Edmonton Oilers Entertainment Group. In this role Bob has overseen the development of the Ice District and many other exciting business projects under the vast Daryl Katz business umbrella. Bob is a great communicator and an amazing story teller and inspires many to follow his lead.
ABOUT JIM HUGHSON: Jim Hughson recently retired after an amazing 42-year career in broadcasting. Calling his first game on radio in 1979, Hughson has done hockey play-by-play spanning the course of six different decades, becoming one of Canada’s most recognizable voices. Hughson has covered countless NHL, OHL and CHL games and has been the voice of the Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs and national hockey broadcasts on Hockey Night in Canada. He’s also commentated a dozen Stanley Cup Finals and the men’s hockey tournament at both the 2006 and 2014 Olympic Winter Games. In 2019, the Hockey Hall of Fame awarded Hughson the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award to honor his outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster. In addition to this, he is a four-time Canadian Screen Awards winner for Best Sports Play-by-Play Announcer. Beyond this, Jim is also one of the nicest individuals you will meet and has much to share for those looking to pursue a passion in whatever that may be.
TRILLIUM ROSE, PGA
PRESENTATION DETAILS: Trillium Rose's approach to coaching combines a deep knowledge of biomechanics, physics, and the science behind skill acquisition. This session will feature her insights into the methods by which students learn effectively.
ABOUT TRILLIUM ROSE: Trillium is the Director of Instruction at Woodmont Country Club outside of Washington, DC where she works with all levels of players. She has been recognized as a Golf Digest Top 50 Teacher in America, Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher in America, an LPGA Top 50 Teacher in America, the 2017 Middle Atlantic PGA Teacher of the Year and a US Kids Master Instructor.
DAY 2 SPEAKERS:
ALI GILBERT
PRESENTATION DETAILS: It is becoming increasingly difficult to function optimally in this modern day with an onslaught of environmental factors, declining testosterone levels among the male population, as well with sedentary lifestyles and less-than-optimal nutrition and fitness choices. But there is much that can be done to mitigate these effects. Ali will go over the current state of health, the intricacies of testosterone replacement therapy, and what can be done from a fitness and nutrition standpoint to function as optimally as possible.
ABOUT ALI GILBERT: A two-time Golf Digest Top 50 Golf-Fitness Professional & Trainer, Ali Gilbert has become highly sought after for her unique approach to training that combines nutrition, training, and lifestyle hacks to alter body composition and optimize metabolism. DAVE ZIBRIK, PGA
PRESENTATION DETAILS: "The Farm: Building a Brand & Developing a Culture"
Brand-building creates an opportunity for developing a culture, while the culture you build shapes your brand. Zibrik will detail why success doesn't allow one without the other, using Point Grey Golf & Country Club's acclaimed new practice facilities as a case study.
ABOUT DAVE ZIBRIK: Dave Zibrik is the Director of Golf at Point Grey Golf and Country Club in Vancouver, BC, and a PGA of BC Member since 2004. Since joining Point Grey in 2016, the staff has been recognized by the PGA of BC with provincial awards for Golf Shop of the Year, Apprentice Professional of the Year, Class "A" Professional of the Year and Junior Golf Leader of the Year. Dave was named the 2019 PGA of BC Golf Professional of the Year and played an integral part in the vision and planning of the practice facilities which is now affectionately known as The Farm at Point Grey.
LOCHLYN MUNRO
PRESENTATION DETAILS: "The Building Blocks to Maintaining a Long Career"
ABOUT LOCHLYN MUNRO: Lochlyn Munro doesn’t generally make tabloid headlines but assuming you watch TV and movies, you will quickly recognize his face. Munro has acted in countless roles and is the definition of a working actor taking great pride in maintaining a career that spans 30-plus years.
As a former junior hockey player whose career-ending injury sent him in a different direction, Munro started his acting career alongside Johnny Depp in "21 Jump Street." Along the way, he has co-starred alongside many A-list celebrities, including Clint Eastwood, Will Ferrell, Bruce Willis and Anthony Hopkins, just to name a few. Munro recently wrapped up a recurring role in the HBO Max series “Peacemaker” alongside John Cena under the direction of acclaimed director James Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy fame. In an industry where the rise to fame is usually followed by an even quicker fall from it, Munro continues to land roles based on his professional and business-like approach to the work of being an actor.
With more than 250 acting credits on his IMDB page, Munro is obviously someone who knows what it takes to not only build a great career but to maintain it. The PGA of BC is very excited that he has agreed to share some of his long-standing career secrets with our members.
CHRISTINE FRASER
PRESENTATION DETAILS: Christine Fraser brings a unique perspective to the field of golf-course architecture. Beyond being one of few women working in course design, Fraser operates with elements of sustainability, social responsibility, diversity and inclusion as driving principles behind her work. In conversation with 2018 PGA of BC Golf Professional of the Year Cindy Soukoroff, Fraser will share her approach to architecture and her thoughts on the future of course design.
ABOUT CHRISTINE FRASER: Having grown up learning to play golf on her family’s golf course and later competing in the NCAA Division I golf circuit in Florida, golf has always been a prominent feature in Christine’s journey. In 2014, Christine completed her Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture and subsequently spent five years in England, practicing golf course design under world-renowned architect Dr. Martin Hawtree. Working alongside Hawree allowed Christine to leave her mark on a diverse set of projects that included Royal Birkdale Golf Club, Sunningdale Golf Club and Royal Aberdeen Golf Club.
Christine has moved back to Canada and continues to refine her craft by collaborating with tenured architects, most notably partnered with Jeff Mingay.
ANDREW RICE
PRESENTATION DETAILS: Andrew Rice is one of the most influential instructors working in North America, helping fellow teachers and Golf Professionals learn from his swing insights and those of many other industry experts through his annual Coach Camp. Rice will share takeaways from his career path and his approaches to working with students in this two-hour session.
ABOUT ANDREW RICE: Andrew Rice is the Director of Instruction at The Club at Savannah Harbor. He has been teaching golf for almost 25 years and uses cutting edge teaching technology to help golfers of all abilities improve. In 2019, Andrew was named one of Golf Digest's 50 Top Teachers in America, including being named the No. 1 teacher in the state of Georgia. Andrew has authored an instructional book, produced several instructional videos and has shared his approach to teaching with thousands of coaches and professionals around the world. His objective is to always present accurate information that is actionable and readily understood.
