What is the most rewarding part about being a member of the PGA of BC?
Being around my passion each and every day. The people I work with and the friendships and relationships that being a PGA member has afforded me the life I get to enjoy.
At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
Swan-e-Set Bay and the Head Professional was Vaughn Marshall
Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Ashley Zibrik. I'm quite confident I wouldn't be where I am without her support and being able to work through ideas and opportunities with her.
What career path led you to where you are today?
Ashley started at Shaughnessy in 2012 and up until that point I had no real interest in being at a private club as I was so focused on teaching and coaching. Seeing how much she enjoyed all of the aspects of working at a club and the different roles and responsibilities opened my eyes to what being a professional at a club could be. A few years later, Mark Thirtle gave me an opportunity as an Associate Professional at Capilano and that led itself to my current role at Point Grey.
Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Most proud of seeing what our Professional Staff has been able to accomplish and the accolades they have received. The team has won a number of awards and each of them deserve what they have accomplished in their own right. The opening of The Farm at Point Grey was a big accomplishment for myself and the club as it was a tremendous amount of work to get over the finish line and have a vote approved by the membership for such a major capital project.
If you had to share one piece of advice with a new member of our Association, what would it be?
Figure out what you want to do in the industry and find the best people in that area to surround yourself with. The community of PGA of BC Professionals are incredibly collaborative and supportive.
What is your most cherished golf memory?
I've had too many to count. Golf has afforded me some cool opportunities in golf and I look forward to the many more that will come.
What is your favourite golf course in British Columbia, and why?
Capilano. Such a great property with some amazing history.
What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
That I just teach golf. Our jobs are so much more to simply that.
What is an interesting fact about yourself that doesn't involve golf?
Favourite places to hang out are Whistler and Maui.
