ALAN PALMER 2013 MEMBER OF THE YEAR

An unswerving dedication to junior golf and preserving the memory and legacy of Jack McLaughlin has earned Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club’s Alan Palmer the prestigious title of 2013 PGA of BC Member of the Year. Palmer led the team of Alex Francois, Diego San Pedro and Josh Zhang to the 2013 Jack McLaughlin Memorial PGA of BC Pro-Junior Presented By PING Golf at the Summerland Golf & Country Club in July. Palmer said the win has a lot of significance because of Jack McLaughlin’s ties to Shaughnessy.

BRENT MULLIN NAMED 2013 PGA OF BC SALES REPRESENTATIVE OF THE YEAR

Brent Mullin of the Mullin Agency was recently named 2013 PGA of BC Sales Representative of the Year for his work with Bushnell Golf products. With 21 years as a Golf Professional, including the last 14 as a Class A PGA of Canada member, Mullin has previously won the provincial sales honour in 2009 and was a regional finalist for the North and Kootenays in 2011.

MATT PALSENBARG WINS $1,000 JIM GIBSON SCHOLARSHIP

Matt Palsenbarg, who teaches at the Northview Golf Academy in Surrey is the 2013 winner of the $1,000 Jim Gibson Scholarship. Palsenbarg was recognized for his volunteerism and dedication to furthering his education to benefit others.The $1,000 award, which honours the late Jim Gibson, a renowned volunteer in B.C. golf, is given annually to a PGA of BC member who gives back to the game.

CHILLIWACK GOLF CLUB NAMED 2013 PGA OF BC FACILITY OF THE YEAR

The Chilliwack Golf Club was recently named the PGA of BC's 2013 Facility of the Year. Led by general manager Bryan Ewart, golf operations manager Jared Rempel and LPGA Teaching Professional Jennifer Greggain, the facility is also home to 2012 PGA of BC Player of the Year Brad Clapp. The facility is notable not only for its impeccable course conditions, but for hosting a variety of major local tournaments and the recent opening of their new Teaching Academy facility, called The Garage.

ROB HOULDING WINS PGA OF BC 2013 TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Rob Houlding is one of the best golf teachers in the province and he was rewarded for all his hard work with the 2013 PGA of BC Teacher of the Year Award. Houlding, whose students include Nick Taylor, Adam Svensson, Taylor Kim and Jisoo Keel, is very highly regarded by his peers in the golf industry, especially if you judge him by these comments.

BRIAN SCHAAL WINS PGA OF BC PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AWARD

Copper Point Golf Club Executive Professional Brian Schaal was a big winner at the recent PGA of BC Awards Receptions. Not only did Schaal walk away with an NGCOA Award, he was named the 2013 PGA of BC Professional Development winner. Schaal gives back to the sport in many ways, not the least of which is paying for all his professionals' entry fees to play in the local Kootenay Pro Tour Series. "I believe if we are trying to grow the game, we need to play the game even more today," said Schaal. "It is a minimal cost that produces maximum results."

MATT PALSENBARG CONTINUES TO LEAD 2013 PDP STANDINGS

The fight for the 2013 PGA of BC PDP title has tightened up considerably, as only three points separate the top three point-getters. Matt Palsenbarg of Northview Golf & Country Club was the leader when the PDP points race was last updated, but his lead has narrowed significantly, with Gleneagles Golf Course's James Presnail only one point behind.
